It all started in early 2026 when a couple of friends thought it would be fun to initiate a chess group at the TU Berlin so they could play chess together, meet new people and have a good time. We networked via WhatsApp and word of mouth and met up outside on campus, since the weather was nice and we didn't have a room to meet in. We played chess, had a good time and had a handful of people join us. We grew to 50+ members by the end of the summer semester and decided to try for a room to meet in starting in the winter semester, because it was getting colder and with a more official environment more people would show up and we could host tournaments. A big shoutout to the Institute of architecture at TU Berlin for providing us with access to the Math Cantine which is arguably the best empty room on campus for chess - or any event for that matter. The first official meet-up was held on October 20th 2026 and the first tournament two weeks later on November 3rd 2026. We launched the website and a instagram account and have been growing ever since.
